Ashamed to admit it now, but during this time, my mixing was heavily influenced by three muses, to which none of them I was espoused. As I listen to this mix almost 20 years later, I hear and can tell what dealings and circumstances with each muse influenced different parts of this mix. Nonetheless, this is one of my favorite mixes - Smooth R&B and Soul, not mixed to perfection, but with intention. I made this mix with a mix of Vinyl with Technic 1200s, CD's on the Pioneer CDJ 800s, all melded together with the Rane TTM56 Battle Mixer. Enjoy, share, like and subscribe.

In part 2 of this series, I pay homage to one of Detroit's most Masterful and Consistent Producers, none other than The BUTCHER, GARI ROMALIS . In this mix, I play 28 tracks produced by The Butcher. This is the original mix CD, Spring Deep House Mix 2006, that I created in April 2006, while stationed in Germany. I love this mix because it was one of the mix CDs that I gave to club promoters, event promoters, record stores, and as a give-away to fans and in turn, resulted in an eventful summer for DJ Shorty B. Shout out to Detroit DJ Reggie "Hotmix" Harrell for putting most of the records in this mix in my hand at Melodies and Memories Record store in Eastpointe (right outside Detroit) MI.
I recently revisited and recreated this mix on my YouTube channel (mixit313 YouTube Page) using CDJ 3000s and DJM A9 Mixer instead of the vinyl, turntables, Rane TTM-56, and the illustrious Korg Kaosspad II used on this mix. The Korg Kaosspad effects unit seemed to have so much more character and beauty that the onboard effects of the Pioneer DJM A9. Or maybe it is just the fact that everything wasn't quantized and sterile like it is now. The picture used is me grooving at the Cameo Club in Kaiserslautern Germany in the summer or 2006 - Such a wonderful time as Germany was hosting FIFA Worldcup and all of Germany was one big party. Anyway, enjoy the mix. Peace!

Full disclaimer - I mixed this from the memory of a mixtape that I got from Tyrone Smith of MESU Audio, Detroit wayyyy back in the day (like 1985/86). He gave me the tape and I listened to it constantly. I lost the tape back in 1993-4-ish, but can't get that mix out of my head - It was my favorite mix of any mix I had ever heard, even until this day. I'm hoping someone hears this, my cover of the mix, and has a copy of the original mix, made sometime between 1985 and 1986, and would be willing to give me a copy.
